Inclement Weather Policies
Performances at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts will plan to go on as scheduled. Although we understand concerns that significant inclement weather* may create, you will see our staff and performers working hard to present our shows as planned.
If weather conditions prevent you from attending your scheduled performance, our staff will try our best to assist at moving you into another performance of the show's run. However, please note that availability for exchanges may be limited and all Tanger Center sales are final.
Should a show performance change due to inclement weather, we will communicate via:
- This webpage (TangerCenter.com/weather)
- Email to ticketholders of the affected performance(s)
- Social Media (connect with us here)
While no one likes the weather impacting our plans, please know that our staff will do all that we can to get you into the Broadway show week, subject to availability. If we are unable to relocate you within the originally scheduled Broadway week, we will work with you on other opportunities for a make-good in special situations as outlined in the Q&A below:
-
Do your shows ever cancel performances due to inclement weather?
-
No they do not - and please remember it is the show's decision to cancel or postpone their performances, not the venue's.
The only cases in which a show would be canceled or postponed would be:
- Performers are unable to travel to the theater.
- Overriding government action local to downtown Greensboro, such as a defined curfew or travel ban.
- Utility services being interrupted for the building.
-
Can't the shows just reschedule their performance(s) that take place during an inclement weather event?
-
Unlike local productions that can reschedule, the large-scale national touring shows that we host at Tanger Center cannot be rescheduled for years, if ever. The tours are scheduled in other cities, so they must remain on schedule and route to fulfill contractual obligations.
-
Can I exchange my tickets to another performance of the same show?
-
Normally, our exchange window closes for Broadway Season Seat Members at 3 p.m. ET on the Friday prior to the show opening.
We are happy to exchange you into a different performance, subject to availability. You may only exchange your ticket for another performance of the same show - our contractual obligations prevent us from simply exchanging you into a completely different show.
Ticket exchange requests must be made no later than six hours prior to the performance by emailing CustomerCare@TangerCenter.com. If you purchased through Account Manager, you can exchange online by following this guide.
Please note that requests are subject to availability, and a price difference may apply.
-
Why can't you just issue a refund or credit if I cannot attend?
-
The majority of the money you pay for a ticket to a show at Tanger Center is paid directly to the show, for a contracted fee for it to play. Please remember that all sales are final at Tanger Center.
-
What happens if I cannot attend a performance?*
-
Under special circumstances, Tanger Center may be able to offer the option of attending a future event as a 'make-good' if travel conditions (local to the venue) prevent you from attending your planned performance. Special conditions of this make-good offer may include:
- The National Weather Service issuing a blizzard/winter storm warning, ice storm warning, or hurricane warning that is in effect at show time, only for the geographical region of Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem.
We apologize, but we cannot accommodate additional make-good requests for weather or travel conditions outside of those described above.
Restrictions will apply regarding the shows that we are able to offer as a make-good. This make-good offer only applies to ticket buyers who purchased directly from the Tanger Center Ticket Office or our authorized ticketing provider, Ticketmaster. If you purchased tickets through a third party, you will need to contact that organization for a resolution.
Make-good offer requests must be made no more than one week after the performance to see if this is an option for your affected performance. Please communicate via an email to CustomerCare@TangerCenter.com.

Where can I get the latest information on road conditions in and around the Triad?
-
DriveNC.gov is very helpful in assessing road conditions. This North Carolina Department of Transportation website is updated continually and includes access to over 500 traffic cameras where you can view actual conditions and traffic along your route. There are also traffic maps and summaries of road conditions, traffic congestion, road closures, and special alerts during inclement weather.
To use the website:
- Go to DriveNC.gov
- Enter "Guilford County" in the search bar
- From the list on the left of the screen, you can toggle on/off traffic cameras, congestion, road work, and more
- Follow this video tutorial for more help

What can we expect from Tanger Center if there is inclement weather?
-
When there is inclement weather in our region, we are as disappointed as everyone about the difficulties that weather can create. Our commitment to our guests in times of inclement weather is as follows:
- We will communicate as quickly as possible about the status of all events. During inclement weather, the Tanger Center website is updated on a continual basis.
- We will answer any inquiries via email (and phone) as expediently as possible. Please note that the volume of inquiries during inclement weather can be high and communicating with us via CustomerCare@TangerCenter.com is recommended. We appreciate your patience with any inquiries during inclement weather.
- If there is any significant change in a scheduled performance(s), we will email affected ticket holders plus issue an alert to local news media.
-
Can I give my tickets to a friend if I'm unable to drive safely?
-
Yes! If you purchased online through Ticketmaster, you can log into your Ticketmaster account and transfer your tickets. Take a look at our guide on how to use mobile tickets for more information.

The Governor has declared a State of Emergency. Does that change anything regarding scheduled events?
-
A "State of Emergency", while it sounds ominous, typically has only a small impact on citizens. The intent of a declared State of Emergency is to help elected leaders access resources that allow them to manage crises and return life to normal. A State of Emergency can, according to state law, be declared during a variety of situations.
What does an official declaration actually do? A State of Emergency, once declared, helps:
- Trigger anti-price gouging laws
- Seek state or federal funding aid for disaster response, if warranted
- Enable government officials to take extra measures to protect the public
- A State of Emergency does not mean that schools, businesses, or government offices are required to close, and it does not mean that you cannot drive, unless specifically stated in the declaration
We always urge ticket buyers to heed official government warnings for your specific area and to make travel decisions based on road conditions in your location and along the route to Tanger Center.
